Faridkot MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon raised the issue of pending work of paddy milling and rice delivery during the last procurement season in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha demanding clear information from the government in this regard and timely completion of the pending work.
He said that as per the information given by the government in the Vidhan Sabha, a total of 105 lakh metric tons of rice was to be delivered to the central pool during the Kharif season 2025-26. Out of this, 85.79 lakh metric tons, i.e. 81.21 percent of rice has been delivered till August 7, 2026.
Sekhon said that according to the government, the main reason for the pending rice delivery is FCI and shortage of storage space. In view of this, the period for milling of paddy and delivery of rice has been extended from June 30 to September 30, 2026.
“The Central Government has been requested to increase the storage capacity of FCI and ensure the movement of at least 11 lakh metric tonnes of rice every month during the months of August and September,”Sekhon said.
“It is very important to complete all the pending work related to the previous season before the start of the new paddy procurement season. With this, farmers, arhtiyas, rice millers and procurement agencies will not have to face any kind of difficulty during the new season,” he said.
He said that every issue related to the interests of Punjab’s farmers will continue to be raised with full seriousness in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and the government will take every necessary step to ensure timely procurement, lifting, milling and delivery of farmers’ crops.
