Civil services examinations are not a child’s play, coaching centres daydream the people to become aspirants for business interests.

This is allegedly a very big industry.

The advertisements go like that anyone who scored even 33 percent marks can become a civil servant. The answer is no.This is the minimum criteria to appear in the civil services examinations held by UPSC.

What would a candidate, who only scored 33 per cent marks merely to pass in bachelor examinations do in very high competitive examinations?Only they can explain how he would climb the steep ladder to outsmart more than 65 percent running ahead of him,how he would push back those people sitting atop the ladder?

This is an illusion. The IELTS coaching centres are being replaced now.

Take a look at hard facts:

The UPSC in 2025 advertised about 979 vacancies to be filled up on the basis of its competitive examination, including IAS,IPS and IFS besides about many other gazetted posts in various departments.

Nearly 9.37 lakh civil services aspirants applied for it,out of which 5.8 lakh appeared as per the information on internet.Out of the 5.8 lakh candidates, who sat to write the preliminary examination, only 14161 were able to crack it.They sat in the mains and only 2700 candidates were shortlisted for the personality test cum interview.

Usually, three fold candidates are shortlisted for interview. This means that they are of almost equal calibre or may be said that they are equally competent academically. Then only 958 candidates were recommended to be appointed on various posts including IAS, the top most,IPS, more authoritative because of its uniform and IFS apart from others.

Simply put:

Nearly 9 lakh applied and almost 958 were successful. This means, after 1 lakh applications, only 9 candidates succeeded or in other words, we can say that if we take into the total number of applications and appeared in the prem examination, the result is around .01 per cent to .02 percent. A very large number of candidates dropped the preliminary examination because of some or other reason.

In a nutshell, the result is around .016 percent.

A piece of advice:

If you are a brilliant student, can dedicates nearly 10 hours to 12 hours time for studies and have a lot of funds and secured futures, you must attempt.Otherwise, after four attempts, with a highly competitive rate of examinations, you may find exhased, insecure of future and starved of funds.

The Punjabis are jubilant now but why?

“We are not much behind now.Our students have done a lot. 6 aspirants have been selected in UPSC examinations,’said Chamkour Singh, a retired lecturer from Bir Sikhan Wala.

But what is the population of Punjab now, over 3 crore plus, and UPSC successful are only 6. Only one after 50000 population.

Note:All the data has been compiled and analysed from the internet.May be a small variation.

Honouring and impact:

When we see something like this, there is a mushroom growth of so called social organizations and others toi honour such successful. But why,may be be we are looking for an opportunity for photo opportunities and have in mind that we are connecting to such would be high profile people who would in turn, oblige us.

But in fact, we are disheartening many others, who tried their best, but did not shine.
