Recarpeting the Moga road at peak traffic hours leads to long traffic jams, thousands of commuters harassed, traffic police struggle to decongest the road

On Monday, there was repair/recarpeting7 work going on near T -point at Moga road Kotkapura, but minus any sense of decongestion of expected traffic jams.

As the work was on at the peak traffic hours,at noon and on Monday, it led to the choking of the whole distance of about 1 kms of Moga road Kotkapura.

If the rwearpetting/repair work could be advanced to the early morning or late afternoon, it could avoid the choking of the traffic.

Hundreds of vehicles daily ply on this stretch of road, which is unable to accommodate such a heavy traffic on it as most of the traffic from across the state and Rajasthan side runs on it.

Though last month, due to the efforts of the traffic police, the road was cleared of many extended possession in front of shops etc on either sides of it,yet as the most of the buses choose to come to the old chowk/lightan wala chowk, heading towards Muktsar/Rajasthan and Faridkot to Amritsar or Ferozpur, there is a lot of traffic on the road.

The new bus stand is also located on the East of the town, which now falls inside it.

NH -15 is a very ideal option in such times.

If most of the buses are diverted from the Moga road,at the point of Bridge at NH-15 on such occasions, there would be a lot of ease in the traffic.

Apart from buses, heavy vehicles can also be diverted to this route.

NH-15 now connects most of the places and adjoining districts.

All the vehicles heading towards Faridkot/Ferozpur and Amritsar etc can be diverted from about 2 kms away from the town in such urgencies.

Some others can also be diverted back from Bathinda road T point, not allowing them to enter the town.

Vehicles only heading towards Muktsar and Rajasthan are inevitable without any other optional route.

As there are a large number of E-Rickshaws available, the passengers may not have much difficulty to reach and leave town upto such points, which is less than two kilometres.

The buses, which have mainly a problem of keeping timetables, lead to a worse situation as they try to catch up by opposite lanes, disrupting the smooth flow of traffic from coming from the opposite direction.

Besides, they drive so rashly and dangerously in such situations.

The authorities must coordinate with each other to avoid such uneasy jams where even ambulances etc also get trapped in traffic jams.

The unnecessary use of SUVs/cars for the show off just travelling a few kilometres even for a single traveller is also a major concern for traffic.

The use of the public transport is in decline and old narrow roads in towns become choking points soon just because of the mistake of a few drivers.
