Faridkot May 19
Further strengthening the Punjab Government’s zero tolerance policy against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Gurpreet Singh, a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) posted at Faridkot, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,600. During the operation, the Vigilance Bureau team recovered Rs 7,200 from his possession and also recovered another cash of Rs 1,26,500 from his vehicle, which appears to be the bribe amount.
A spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the arrest was made following a complaint by a resident of Faridkot, who alleged that the said accused had demanded Rs 1,800 per truck for approving the fitness certificates of two of his trucks. After investigating the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and caught Gurpreet Singh red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,600 in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard, a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ferozepur Range and further investigation is underway.
