If you have any dairy or other kinds of animals, remember that you must give the vaccinator the OPT(One Time Password) to ensure that your animals have been vaccinated.

Dr Surjeet Singh Mall, deputy director of animal husbandry department Faridkot has confirmed the move.

“Yes,to ensure that all the vaccinations are done timely and effectively, the centre government has mandated that the OTP is must for vaccinations.Earlier, it was to be implemented from February 15, but due to some pending work, the date was extended upto March 1.Now we have got PPR(Peste des Petitis, for sheep and goat plague) and then there would be Foot and Mouth Disease(FMD), then we get HS(Hemorrhagic Septicemia(Galghotu) from time to time and it’s administered by our department. But the farmers or whoever gets the vaccination, which is must for all the animals, has to provide the OTP,” said Dr Surjeet Singh when contacted by The Punjab express.com.

He said that the department has already vaccinated the animals against Lumpy Skin Disease in February.

“This is a problem for us and is a time consuming process. As if someone is not at home as the men go out to work, earlier we used to vaccinate the animals in the presence of any member of the family. But now we must ensure that the persons who has mobile phone is available at home. This problem mostly persists at the houses of the daily wagers or other poor people. They alsol do not understand it,” said a veterinary inspector wishing not to be named.

“But the people can also provide any phone number which is available with them for the registration,” he added.

“Now the system is more effective. Earlier, the veterinarians used to come and without proper knowledge of the farmers, vaccinated the animals. The government supplies them with all the new needles and syringes etc and coolants to preserve the vaccinations, but they used same syringes and infected needles for many animals as the presence of the farmers was not must.Though it may take some time, yet it is a welcome move of the government,’ said a farmer.

At least they have to stay and tell the farmers about vaccination.
