Punjab and Chandigarh union of journalists unit Kotkapura holds seminar to remember the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh by holding a seminar

Punjaba and Chandigarh union of journalists unit Kotkapura on Monday organized a seminar to remember the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh,Rajguru and Sukhdev.

The state general secretary of the union Santokh Gill discussed forgotten the role of Bhagat Singh as a journalist.

‘Most of the people do not know that Bhagat Singh,who laid down is life just at the age of 23, was a revolutionary journalist as well.He worked in many journals,periodicals and newspapers and ;published his pieces in those ,” said Gill, addressing the gathering of the reporters at Government Senior Secondary school Kotkapura.

He also discussed the problems being faced by the journalists and their solutions.

He appealed to the journalists to stand up, do unbiased and balanced reporting without any affiliation to the political parties.

He also criticised the public relation department’s move to impose the condition of police verification for the issuance of yellow cards.

He demanded the free bus passes to the reporters.

Sukhnaib Sidhu, the member of the national council of the union,who runs online media platforms said that the respective governments want to silence the voice of the common man by controlling the media.

“We should come together to maintain the ethics of the media and guard the free speech.The government’s register cases against the media persons to silence them,but we have formed this platform to support the genuine reporters for the genuine cause,’ said Sukhnaib Sidhu.

“Working as  independent reporters and bringing out the truth is like walking on the double edged sword.Apart from it many reporters do not have sufficient funds as reporting is a costly business,which demands money and time.This is also a problem,” said Sukhnaib Sidhu.

Mohar Singh Gill, the president of its local unit welcomed all the visitors and special guests.

Gurinder Singh Mehandiratta,senior reporters(working committee member) and an organiser made all the arrangements for the seminar along with Mohar Gill and introduced the reporters and all other visitors with one another.e also performed the responsibility of stage secretary to run the programme.

Nahar Singh Gill played his revolutionary songs.

Panna La, the principal of the GSSS Kotkapura welcomed the chief guests and appreciated the role of the Kotkapura unit of the union for holding such useful and informative programs.

Santokh Gill, Sukhnaib Sidhu and Virpal Bhagta were also honoured by Mohar Singh Gill, Gurinder Singh Mehndiratta,Harpreet Chana and all other reporters.

The organizers especially thanked the Principal Panna Lal for providing them the seminar hall.
