Punjab Chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday honoured the Punjab topper of Sarsvati Senior secondary School Jaitu, who secured 646 marks out of 650 and topped the state examination of matriculation held by the Punjab School Education Board Mohali.
Mann also awarded Rs 50000 to the topper appreciating her efforts to strive for the number one position in the state.
“The students of the private and government schools in Punjab are trying their best to excel in all the fields and the government is committed to honour them.During the award giving ceremony,Harleen’s parents Renu Bala and her father Jaswinder Kumar Sharma were also present.
Harleen is from village Chaina of Jaitu sub division of Faridkot district.
Mann has been honouring the toppers in Punjab for the past years and the students and their parents term it as a very welcome move to encourage the students for achieving the goals.
“Last year, as my daughter topped the class 10 examination held by the PSEB,from Sant Mohan Das senior secondary school(SMD group of education institutions), we were invited by the chief minister. He spared enough time to speak to the students and we are highly impressed by his personal bond shown top the students despite giving them cash prizes. It was an enjoyable moment for us with the CM.Otherwise, I had not seen any CM bothered to have personal interaction with the toppers of the Punjab,” said Mohar Singh Gill, a reporter with a vernacular daily and father of Jashanpreet Kaur Gill.
Jashanpreet Kaur Gill had shared the same rank with another topper, but due to some technicalities regarding age, she was considered at the next rank, for which Gill had an objection.
