The three accused arrested in the case have multiple FIRs against them.

There is a new normal in Punjab. The gangsters and police encounters. The story almost runs the same that the accused in police custody is taken to recover the weapon used in the crime ,he tried to avail of the opportunity and shot at the police, the bullet missed the target and in the retaliatory fire, the accused was shot in the leg.

This perhaps happened in Faridkot second time. The first such incident occurred in village Bir Sikhan Wala and second happened on Friday, near village Sibian.

The police said that it had arrested three accused including one Ramjot Singh of Moga in Rs 1 crore extortion case.

They had been arrested for an attempted extortion of Rs 1 crore from a Kotkapura man and firing at his gate.

“The police had arrested 3 accused in the case. When the police took Ramjot Singh for the recovery of a weapon from a road from Sibian to Dhilwan, he tried to avail the opportunity and opened fire at the police. One of the bullet whizzed off touching the turban of the policeman and in retaliatory fire, the accused was shot in the leg and he was admitted to the hospital,” said Dr Pragya Jain,SSP Faridkot in videos to the private channels.

The questions arise how a man in police custody lays hands at his allegedly pre-loaded weapon and is able to fire at the police?

In fact, when someone is in police custody, he is often handcuffed except when he is presented in the court of law.

Then there is a police team, fully prepared, equipped with the weapons and at standby mode in such operations and how can a criminal be given a free hand to look for the weapon and use it?

For the recruitment of the police, one must fulfill the physical criteria, taller than 5.7 inch and fully physically fit and one is given best training, so how can a criminal grab an opportunity to fire at the police party?

Next, when many such incidents have taken place in Punjab, why does the police not find any other way for the recovery of the weapon.

The accused might have told the police during interrogation that he has hidden the weapon used in the crime at that particular place and the police can ensure that he does not have any free movement and the weapon can be dug up by the police itself in his presence?

Then there is another question: why police seem to be working allegedly unprofessionally when already such incidents have taken place in the state.

There are many unanswered questions which can be given if there is proper investigation of the case by some independent agency.

“The accused is usually handcuffed when taken out except when to be produced in the court. On the other too, the policemen tightly hold the  wrists of the accused. So it can not be easily accepted that police would give thee accused so much liberty that he would be able to use his weapon and fire at the police,” said a senior advocate from Faridkot wishing not to be named.

“In fact the ganstes came up during the SAD’s ten years regime to capture many businesses and protect their interests.During congress rule, they were not touched much, but during the AAP rule, the crime shot up.Such criminals come out of jail easily because no witnesses stand against them and there is serious threat among the businessmen of extortion. So the police have allegedly chosen a moderate approach, neither to neutralise them and nor to let them go scot free. The police aims to instill confidence among the common man  and create a fear psychosis among the criminals that they would not go unpunished for their crimes. This way, the crime rate has come down and the approach of the police has come out of a thoughtful compulsion,” said a highly educated Faridkot man.

Despite walking on this critical path, the police have successfully controlled the drugs and crime to a greater extent, there is no denial to the fact.
