Umesh Garg,55,a commission agent,pesticides dealer and social worker has been elected the new president of Ahartia Association Kotkapura which has over 200 members.The election was held unanimously Friday and Garg was elected president of the association unopposedly . Each term of the president consists of two years.The election was held in the office of the Ahartia association Kotkapura in the presence of Birinder Singh Sandhwan,brother of Kotkapura MLA and speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha.”The other office bearers would be elected later on and the newly elected president has assured all the commission agents to run their business very smoothly by coordinating with the district administration and the state government, “said Sanjay Mittal, former joint secretary of the association. It is pertinent to mention that Kotkapura is one of the largest grain markets,as most of the basmati produce is purchased here.Earlier,it was known for the large scale of sale purchase of cotton,once called white gold in 90ties.
