Akali Dal-Waris Punjab has allegedly kicked off its election campaign in Malwa by declaring Bhai Rachhpal Singh Sosan as its candidate from Kotkapura, as claimed by Rachhpal Singh Sosan himself in a press release to the media on Tuesday.
Bhai Sosan was appointed as Halqa In-charge on August 12 and now, as claimed, the party has handed over complete command of Kotkapura to him after declaring him as candidate.
According to party insiders, Bhai Rachhpal Singh Sosan was earlier Halqa In-charge from Moga. It is claimed that within one-and-a-half years, he had allegedly brought Moga constituency close to victory, but on the party’s directions, he withdrew from the fray in favour of Bandi Singh Bhai Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala, after which he has been reportedly given the responsibility of Kotkapura.
Kultar Singh, MLA Kotkapura and now Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, is currently representing the Kotkapura assembly segment. Halqa In-charge of Congress Ajapal Singh Sandhu, and Bhai Rahul Singh Sidhu, who had been in charge of the Kotkapura assembly segment between 2017 and 2022 during the Congress government and is now reportedly a strong contender for the BJP ticket apart from former close aide of Sukhbir Singh Badal and former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mantar Singh Brar, are also in the fray.
As per available information, Bhai Sosan is known as an educated businessman and a devout Gursikh. He is reportedly a former student of Damdami Taksal and stayed at Anandpur Sahib with former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Singh Sahib Bhai Manjit Singh, where he allegedly mastered doing Katha in English.
As claimed, he served for a long time as Editor in various Punjabi newspapers and also allegedly worked as Staff Reporter for several Punjabi and English dailies and served as Mass Media Officer in the Health Department.
He is considered one of the closest associates of Bhai Amritpal Singh and is known for his affable nature and humility, as claimed by his supporters.
IHe has the ability to answer every question of the media and that he had allegedly dropped his plan to permanently settle in Canada on Bhai Amritpal Singh’s persuasion.As claimed by observers, with his entry into the electoral fray, the political atmosphere in Malwa has allegedly heated up. It is claimed that he gathered a large crowd at the Faridkot rally after just one month of work, and since no other party has allegedly announced its candidate yet, he is expected to get the first-mover advantage, as claimed.
