Faridkot police has arrested the mastermind who demanded Rs 50 lakh as extortion from a shopkeeper in village Aulakh.
SSP Gurbans Singh Bains said the arrested accused is Jasandeep Singh alias Jassa of village Jalleana, district Ferozepur. His accomplice has also been nominated.
“The complainant Ramandeep Singh, 26, runs a grocery store and dairy at Aulakh with his family. On August 16 night, he got a WhatsApp call from an unidentified number. The caller spoke in Hindi, demanded Rs 50 lakh and threatened to kill him and his family if the money was not paid, claiming he knew everything about his family.”On receiving the complaint, teams were formed under SP Investigation Narinder Singh and DSP Kotkapura Sanjeev Kumar,”said SSP Faridkot Gurbans Singh Bains briefing the media today.
. “With technical and human intelligence, police traced and arrested the accused,”the SSP said.”
He is being brought on police remand for interrogation. Preliminary probe revealed the conspiracy was hatched only for greed for money,”the SSP said.
FIR No. 209 dated August 24 was registered at Sadar Kotkapura police station under Sections 308(5), 3(5), 351(2) BNS againt unknown and further investigation in this case is on.
SSP Bains said Faridkot police is following zero-tolerance policy against anti-social elements as per directions of Chief Minister and DGP Gaurav Yadav.
He appealed to public to immediately report any such threat call to the nearest police station or control room.
