In a major success against drug trafficking under ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, Faridkot police has arrested a drug smuggler and recovered 522 gram heroin, a 9mm pistol and a motorcycle.
SSP Gurbans Singh Bains said the accused has been identified as Mohanbir Singh, son of Amarjit Singh, resident of village Rajoke, police station Khalra, district Tarn Taran.
Police also seized an unnumbered black HF Deluxe motorcycle from him.Giving details, SSP Bains said CIA Staff Faridkot led by SI Hakam Singh was on patrolling and checking at bus stop village Kaler on NH-54 on August 24. The team spotted a man sitting on a black motorcycle without number. On seeing police, he tried to flee by starting the bike, but was nabbed on the spot.DSP Avtar Singh reached the spot and in his presence, 522 gram heroin was recovered during search.
Later during remand interrogation, the accused also disclosed a 9mm pistol with two live cartridges.
A case under FIR No. 266 dated August 25 has been registered at Sadar Faridkot police station under Sections 21(C)/61/85 NDPS Act and 25/54/59 Arms Act.
The accused is being taken on remand to establish his backward and forward links.
SSP Bains said the recovery is the result of planned operation, intelligence input and constant vigilance, and has broken a big drug cartel. He said Faridkot police is fully committed to root out drugs.
