Under the leadership of Gurbans Singh Bains, SSP Faridkot, Faridkot Police, while continuously taking action against anti-social elements, has successfully solved the murder occurred near village Dhilwan kalan.
Under the guidance of Shri Jogeshwar Singh Goraya, SP (Investigation), Faridkot, and the directions of Shri Sanjeev Kumar, DSP (Subdivision), Kotkapura, the police successfully traced the broad daylight murder that occurred near village Dhillwan kalan close to the Amritsar–Bathinda National Highway 54 near Kotkapura, within just a few hours and arrested the main accused.
According to the complainant, Jagdeep Singh alias Akash, he works as a mobile phone repair technician in village Bargari. He had been in a relationship with Mehakdeep Kaur, daughter of Vakil Singh from the same village, for the past 5–6 years.
They wanted to marry each other, but both families were not in agreement. Therefore, they got married at a Gurdwara without their families’ consent and had also filed a protection petition before the Hon’ble High Court. They were not living in their native village but were residing in village Bhairupa.On 20.07.2026, the complainant’s mother-in-law Simarjeet Kaur and brother-in-law Harpreet Singh planned to meet them at the gurdwara in village Dhilwan Kalan.
On the morning of 20.07.2026, Simarjeet Kaur and Harpreet Singh called the complainant’s wife and told her that they would meet at the Gurdwara in village Dhilwan kalan and pay their respects there. The complainant took his wife Mehakdeep Kaur on his Splendor motorcycle and reached the crossroads near the Gurdwara at Dhilwan Kalan at about 2:00–2:30 PM.
At that moment, his father-in-law Vakil Singh suddenly appeared and grabbed the motorcycle handlebar, attempting to remove the key. The complainant realized that something bad was about to happen, so he sped toward the highway.He turned the motorcycle toward Kotkapura, but after a short distance the motorcycle stalled.
He then turned onto the link road toward village Dhilwan Kalan. Soon afterward, two motorcycles carrying his father-in-law Vakil Singh, his elder uncle-in-law Gurpreet Singh alias Gora, his younger uncle-in-law Sukhchain Singh, his aunt’s son Dilbag Singh, and Sukkha Singh alias Golu caught up with them. Gurpreet Singh allegedly shouted that they had dishonored the family’s honor and should not be allowed to leave alive.Sukkha Singh then attacked him with a scraper-like sharp weapon.
The complainant dropped his motorcycle, and he and his wife Mehakdeep Kaur ran toward the highway to save their lives. All the accused chased them. They crossed the highway and tried to flee through the fencing into the fields. However, Mehakdeep Kaur became entangled in the fencing, whereupon Sukkha Singh grabbed her by the arm. In front of the complainant, his father-in-law Vakil Singh allegedly stabbed Mehakdeep Kaur in the abdomen 5–6 times with a knife. Mehakdeep Kaur screamed for help.
When the complainant realized that they had killed his wife and would kill him as well, he fled through the fields in fear to save his life.
The accused allegedly chased him for a considerable distance.
The Faridkot police had registered a case as per the statement of the husband of the victim.During the investigation, the arrested persons were identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gora, son of Thana Singh; Sukhchain Singh, son of Jarnail Singh; Vakil Singh, son of Thana Singh; and Sukkha Singh alias Golu, son of Laljit Singh, all residents of Burj Harika in District Faridkot. Dilbag Singh, son of Gursewak Singh, resident of Nanaksar, District Faridkot, has also been arrested.Preliminary interrogation has revealed that Jagdeep Singh alias Akash and Mehakdeep Kaur, daughter of Vakil Singh, had been in a relationship for about 5–6 years. It has also come to light that the two had married with mutual consent about two months ago. However, due to opposition from their family members, the accused allegedly committed the crime.
Apart from this, the case is being thoroughly investigated from every angle. The arrested accused have been produced before the Hon’ble Court, and police remand has been obtained so that every aspect of the case can be investigated in detail and the accused can be questioned further to uncover additional facts and possible links related to the matter.
In this regard, FIR No. 145 dated 21.07.2026 had been registered at Police Station City Kotkapura under Sections 103(2), 191(3), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
