Dharmendra Pradhan, the union education minister has resigned today. His resignation has come after about 2 months and 23 days after the paper leak,1 month and 19 days after the first protest started by digitally formed Cockroach Janata party by Abhijit Deepke.
The NEET-UG examination was to be held on May 3, but the paper was allegedly leaked before the examination.
About 22 lakh MBBS aspirants had to write the examination for about 136000 seats across the country in various medical colleges.
Though the gopverment had handed over the investigation to the CBI, yet about 20 medical aspirants allegedly died by suicide, frustrated and stressed by the paper leak.
But no financial relief was provided to them so far though the government had said that it would provide the financial assistance to the kins of the deceased, still, financial relief however much it could be, can not bring anybody back to life.
It is not the simple win of the CJP or the first available response of the union government.Actually, the Narendra Modi led government had exhausted almost all options of dealing with the protestors. The protesters were allegedly brutally assaulted by the police and other paramilitary forces, lobbed tear gas shells, even allegedly used pellet guns(infamous for using them in Jammu and Kashmir earlier), beaten with nailed battens, tried to isolate them and even some educational institutes also appealed the protesets-cum –studnets in veiled threat of legal action against them.
The unprovoked excessive police force on the protestors to silence and disperse badly backfired. The political parties stood behind them and even the government, which eyes youth its vote bank, was in awe and shock after the agitation pulled crowds and got sympathy from all walks of life, nationally and internationally too.
Pardhan should have had shown the exit immediately after the paper leak, but as there are very high stakes allegedly involved, neither he resigned on moral grounds, nor was he removed. Now, when the union government has run out of all options, he resigned.
Perhaps, this is the second time since 2014, since the BJP came to power that the Narendra Modi government has come under pressure after it had to repeal the 3 farm laws after the farmers protest in 2021-22.
This is the third time when the paper of NEET-UG has been allegedly leaked. It was reportedly leaked in 2016,2024 and last time in 2026.
As the farmers agitation was mainly organized by the farmers from Punjab and Haryana and most of the protestors initially were sikhs, the government had tried to label them as anti nationals or Khalistanis, but now this label can not be applied to the protestors as the protesting youth mostly belongs to a majority community which is the vote bank of the BJP.So after badly beating the protestors and applying all pressure tactics, the Education minister has had to go.
