Jagjeet Singh Dallewal, state president of Bharti Kisan Union Sidhupur-Ekta alleged that the moisture meters to find out the moisture content in paddy are being allegedly misused.

‘I visited a grain market in Bhagtan Wali Mandi in Amritsar district and found out that the moisture meters used by different persons ,ie, procurement agencies, traders ,millers and market committee had a lot of variation in their readings. This is an apparent loot of the farmers and it would not be tolerated by us.I met many farmers and the moisture content in their paddy was between 15 to 17 which was shown much higher. When we intervened, the produce was decided to be proccured, but later on the farmers told us that the vested interests persons allegedly threatened that farmers that if their produce is procured, they would be subject for any kind of shortage,” Dallewal alleged in a press release to the media.

He said that if this alleged loot is not stopped, the union would protest outside the DC office at Amritsar.
