I was asked by someone in a government department to get an affidavit of myself attested by the executive magistrate.
So, first of all, I purchased a stamp paper, which is always required whether one has to get it attested by a notary public or magistrate.
But getting an attestation of an affidavit from a notary public is not time consuming, while getting it to be attested from executive magistrate is much time time consuming, harassing and despite all the proofs like aadhaar cards,driving licence,voter cards etc, you have get your self identified that you are someone ABC etc.
For this purpose, first of all, you are asked that your affidavit must be signed by one village resident and another by either nambardar or sarpanch.
Having done all these formalities, I visited the sewa kendra Kotkapura on January 21. I waited for my turn, but then it was lunch time before my turn. After lunch time, there were crowdy counters and as soon as my turn came, the processing man at the seat asked me,” Do you write a surname as Brar, and I explained him hurriedly that I got it removed long ago from my Aadhaar card and my stamp paper is also in the name of Raghbir Singh.But he was i hurry and did not want to listen to me.
“Call up 1947,’ he dictates.
The problem was that the room was crowded and many people were waiting.
There were some sifarish(people who had recommendations sitting in the office) to the employees who wanted to free the traffic.
Frustrated, I called up 1947 and after long wait, the woman at the other end of the call told me that my name was only Raghbir Singh.There was no tag of Brar surname and she advised me to ask the sewa kendra employees to get a re-verification at the desk.
As my first token expired, I had to get another token for the same. I requested the boy to give me the number of his manager but he refused.
When I protested, he again checked up and told me that my name was incorrect.This was beside my aadhaar card and stamp issued by the name of Raghbir Singh, which are both computerised.
Finally, when I protested more they got it checked at the aadhaar counter and thankfully, the madam was very cooperative.she said that my name was correct and advised her colleague to re verify it at the system.
After hours of harassment, the senior mam processed it and I collected my affidavit the next day.
If it could happen to me, who is highly educated and understands everything,what would have happened to the common man,” the question needs to be answered by the government which makes tall claims.
Complaints and suggestions futile at No 1100.
Then in the middle of my harassment, I noted a number for complaints and suggestions. I dialled it twice.But despite all my explanations to the attendant, there was no registration of complaint.He said that if you have got another token then wait and again, means the third time, I may contact them.
