Observing that allegedly inra-village marriages or elopments are getting common, Sirsari village of Kotkapura tehsil,district Faridkot on Friday passed a resolution that the village panchayat,including the residents would strongly oppose and buycot the family if any boy and girl or daughter in law get married within the village.
“The panchayats of both villages,Sirsari and Anokhpura(the village is one while it has now two panchayats) have passed a resolution reaching a consensus in presence of the village residents that they would strongly oppose if any boy and girl or daughter inlaw(in case of alleged love affair) get married with the village and buycott the family. The strict action would be taken against those violating the moral values of the village level,” the resolution roughly translates into English.
“We further demand that the state government must impose a ban on such intra-village or entities so that precious lives of the people could be saved,” the resolution reads referring to the honour killings.
Next, the both the panchayats have also said that nobody,without the proper Aadhaar card and voter card can not live in the village.Any such family or person,without any identification,shall inform the village panchayats in this case.
This move has come to avoid any criminal incident and shelter in the village by the persons with criminal background.
Thirdly, the panchayats of the villages and locals said that anybody involved in drug trafficking, smuggling or selling any kind of drugs in the villages would not be supported in any case.
It is pertinent to mention that the intra-village marriages or love affairs between the married persons could be seen leading to bloodshed or murders.
In another village of Kotkapura Tehsil, about more than 10 intra-village marriages have taken place where the girls from the neighbourhood got married to the boys through courts and the couples are living in the same village over the past 10 years.One of such marriage in the neighbourhood had led to bloody clashes in the village about three-four years back.
Most of the marriages have taken place in the scheduled classes.
The resolution by the villages Sirsari and Anokhpura has been signed by the sarpanches of both the villages besides many others.
Though it may be against the spirit of law,yet it is a welcome move by the village.
