The SAD led by Sukhbir Singh Badal is allegedly running from pillar to post to gain its ground, but as it takes contradictory stands on the important issues or backtracks later on, it is going a step forwards and then a step backwards.
On the delimitation and women’s reservation bill, it has fully supported the delimitation bill provided it grants equality to all states.
It has also said if the parliament seats are allegedly doubled,it would support it.
But as far as the delimitation is concerned, it is being carried out on the basis of the 2011 census, instead of waiting for the fresh one.
The boundaries of the parliament seats had been frozen allegedly in 1971 when the family planning programme was being strictly implemented assuring the stakeholders that it would not cause any loss to the states if they implement the family planning programme.
But now the delimitation is being based on the population of the states,which is is a bad trend due to the poverty and burden on the natural resources.
This way, states like Bihar and UP get upper hand as they allegedly failed to contain the population. But some states like Punjab in the North and some states in the south, are losing their representation in the parliament as their population was stable or had little increase.
“If the delimitation is carried on the basis of the 2011 population, parliamentary seats in Punjab may go upto 19 against 13 existing seats and the all India tally of estimated seats of about 850.This way, the share of the representation of the state would fall.If seats are doubled, the Punjab may have 26 seats against the all India tally of 1086.
Far BJP, it is a win-win situation.
If the seats from Bihar and UP are increased according to the population, the major support base of the BJP tilts towards the BJP to remain in power.
Despite its opposition to the proposed bill of delimitation last year, SAD has now allegedly favoured it, after Sukhbir Badal allegedly met the PM of India..
“The women’s reservation bill was passed in Sept 2023. It can be implemented tomorrow on the basis of the current seat. Delimitation has no connection to women’s reservation. Please don’t fall in this trap & further BJP’s propaganda,|”replied former MP of TCP Mohoua Mitra on X.
SAD’s flip flop on agriculture ordinances
It is not the first time the SAD has allegedly changed its stance within a year allegedly after meeting PM Narendra Modi recently.
In June 2020, when the Narendra Modi led government has brought three ordinances called as black farm laws, SAD Supremo, Prakash Singh Badal, his son Sukhbir Singh Badal and then union food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal had welcomed the bills for the benefit of the farmers.

In September, the Badal family under the pressure of the farmers’ agitation stepped back from the ordinances and finally quit the NDA alliance by the resignation of the then union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
what is party now
Earlier, former CM Prakash Singh Badal stayed relevant in the state politics winning many elections on the so called slogan of “Panth Khatre Vich”, usually that the Panth is in danger.It was the rural electorate which was his main stay.
Then the party underwent a transformation as Punjabi party and with an alliance with the BJP, it managed to rule the state.
But then there were only two corner contest. Badals termed the congress Sikh Virodhi and managed to exploit the emotions of the people.
The party also lost its alleged secularity on occasions.
Now its vote bank has been shared by many parties.There is AAP, Akali Dal Waris Punjab De,Akali Dal Punar Surjeet, the BJP and the Congress.
Now it can not claim the traditional vote bank, nor can it fight elections on the issues of the state.
Most of the issues and the so called dole based subsidies have been exploited y the AAP.
BJP has been allegedly playing a divisive game in the country and in the same way, it is approaching all the sections’ of the society.
Mass base of the SAD has been eroded over the years and above all, the alleged use of the supreme seat of the Sikh to exploit it in its favours, has further had a set back to SAD.
Then the SAD allegedly used the highest seat of the Sikhs to drag Bhagwant Mann into some controversies, but it did not go down well with the electorcat4e.
First of all, the Punjab BJP is claiming that it would contest the upcoming assembly elections alone, but if SAD enters into an alliance with the BJP, like a big fish, the SAD would allegedly be swallowed politically by it.
DEra politics
The SAD allegedly exploited the Dera politics at its best ,but after the sacrileges incidents, it had to go back foot on it.Now all the other parties including the BJP and the Congress, are exploiting the Dera votes.AAP is also no longer behind anyone.
The Dera politics that led to its decline
The indulgences of the SAD in the Dera Sacha Sauda politics sharply led to its decline after the sacrilege indicants.
