Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Kotkapura, and others, have challenged the amendment of the voter lists for the general elections of the Kotkapura municipality.

The petitioners have alleged that when the honourable high court has already approved the questions raised over the delimitation of the wards, according to which, the elections of the municipality Kotkapura has to be held according to the old order of wards, then no change of can be made in the area of the wards.

Sukhwinder Singh and others were represented by their counsel Pardeep K. Bajaj.

“Now, the concerned officials are registering some of the voters from other wards to others in the guise of the amendment of the voter lists. So far, about 1290 votes have thus been shifted to other wards(crossed over to other wards),from the wards where they had already been registered,” the petitioner alleged.

The counsel for the petitioners also pleaded that the reservation of the wards, according to the rules, required to be rotated before every election, but this has not been done.” As Ward no 23,which was reserved for the women(general) during the elections of 2021-22, had to be rotated to some other wards, but it has been again kept reserved for the women(general) for the year 2026-27,”the petitioners have contended.

The matter was taken up by a division bench of the high court on May 1,2026.

The court pulled up the respondents and asked them to file their reply on May 4.
