In a second step after registration of FIRs and arresting the drug pedlars,district administration on Friday organised an awareness programme at Dasmesh Dental college Faridkot, which was attended by Kultar Singh Sandhwan,Speaker Punjab VIdhan Sabha, Faridkot MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon,DC Faridkot Punamdeep Kaur and SSP Faridkot Pragya Jain besides many others,including students and locals.
According to the civil and district administration, in the first phase of the “war against drugs”, the alleged drug peddlers and smugglers were arrested and in the second phase of this campaign, the Punjab government has set out at an aim to create an awareness programme against the use of drugs.
“The state government is fully committed to eradicate drugs from the state and first of all, it has broken the supply lines and arrested people indulging in drug supply activities. Now we are holding seminars and awareness programmes to make the youth aware of the menace of the drugs,” said Kultar Singh Sandhwan,Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha addressing the gathering at Faridkot.

“The youth is our future and we are committed to saving it. The government is very strict to curb the supply chain of drugs and apart from that, we are of the opinion that creating awareness is must. If the youth is aware about the bad effects of the drugs,leading to the destruction of the whole family, they must stay away from it,” said Gurdit Singh Sekhon,MLA Faridkot.
“The people should come forward to help the drug addicted to get admitted to the drug-de-addiction centres run by the government.The awareness programmes are very helpful to keep our youth away from the consumption of drugs. The drug addicts are treated as victims by the government and they must come forward to get de-addicted. We are fully committed to help the victims,” said Punamdeep Kaur,DC Faridkot.
“We are not sparing any one indulging in drug smuggling activities. We have registered 150 FIRs and more than 300 drug smugglers have been arrested.Apart from it, the property of the drug smugglers has also been frozen and some illegal constructions of the drug smugglers have also been demolished,” said SSP Dr Pragya Jain.
A large number of people,students and others attended the seminar.
The students of the Dental and Nursing college also presented skits on the topic of awareness against drugs.
Many other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
