In a major breakthrough against illegal arms smuggling, Faridkot Police has busted a jail-based international arms smuggling gang and arrested two operatives with 10 illegal pistols and 20 live cartridges.
The gang was allegedly operating on the directions of a jailed mastermind and was in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers who were pushing weapons through drones.
SSP Faridkot Gurubans Singh Bains said the investigation into a possible Pakistan-drone arms network is underway.
According to the press note issued today, the operation was carried out on September 16, 2026 under the directions of DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav and IG Faridkot Range Neelambari Jagdale, and under the supervision of SSP Gurubans Singh Bains, SP (Investigation) Narinder Singh and DSP (Investigation) Avtar Singh.
CIA Staff Faridkot played a key role.
Police said ASI Parminder Singh and his team were patrolling at Kotkapura Road Canal Bridge, Faridkot when a secret informer tipped off that two persons were roaming near the Central Modern Jail, Faridkot on Talwandi Bhai Road with a heavy consignment of arms and ammunition and were planning to supply it further or use it in a criminal activity.
Acting on the reliable input, police arrested both accused and recovered 10 illegal pistols and 20 live rounds from their possession.The arrested accused have been identified as Rajbir Singh alias Amit (21), son of Bhupinder Singh, resident of near Lal Mill, Koluhata Mohalla, Subhash Road, Chheharta, Amritsar and Amar Singh alias Amar (25), son of Amrik Singh, resident of San Sahib Road, Baba Deep Singh Colony, Chheharta, Amritsar. Both belong to Amritsar district.Preliminary investigation revealed that the main kingpin is Deep Singh alias Deepak, resident of Roranwala, Attari, Amritsar, who is currently lodged in jail.
He was allegedly getting large consignments of arms through drone from Pakistan-based smugglers and was directing his associates to handle and further supply the weapons in Faridkot and adjoining areas.
The recovered arms include 3 Zigana .30 bore pistols, 1 PX-5 Storm .30 bore pistol, 2 desi .32 bore pistols and 4 desi .30 bore pistols.
SSP Bains said a deep investigation is being conducted into the source of the arms supply, other associates of the arrested accused and possible international links to expose the entire illegal arms supply chain.
Clear instructions have been issued to all officers to take strict action against illegal arms trafficking and criminal gangs in the district.On checking the criminal record, it was found that main kingpin Deep Singh alias Deepak is already facing a case under Arms Act and NDPS Act registered as FIR No. 388 dated 06.09.2026 at Police Station Gharinda, Amritsar.
In this connection, a case under Sections 25(6),25(7)/54/59 of Arms Act has been registered at City Police Station Faridkot vide FIR No. 477 dated 16.09.2026.
