40 years old Binder Singh,a resident of village Devi Wala, subdivision Kotkapura is now looking for some financial help to purchase medicines and transport to reach Dera Bassi where he was operated upon.

He has pinned all his hopes on the help from the society and some government departments.

The family had to first suffer the trauma of partition in 1947 and had lost all its land back in Pakistan.

“Both the valves of his heart have been replaced. We first took him to Faridkot and then to Bathinda where the doctors told us that estimated cost for his heart surgery would be around Rs 5.5 lakh. Then our neighbours helped us to have him admitted in a hospital at Derabassi where he was operated upon.Though the operation was done with the government’s insurance scheme, yet we had to spend around Rs 60000 on medicines, transport and others. But now we have nothing left with us,”said Kaku Singh, father of the patient Binder Singh, who himself works as a guard in a private school in Kotkapura.

“Now he is required to be taken to Derabassi for regular check up.Because of his poor health condition,he can not use any public transport. If we hire a taxi, we have to pay Rs 6000 per turn.Besides it, we need to buy his medicines for which we further need Rs 10000 for a week or two.I even do not have any piece of land which I can sell and get my son treated,” says Kaku Singh.

Binder Singh had to look after the needs of his whole family. His parents, two younger sons, wife and besides he is also living with the family of his younger brother in a small house.

“We are very much worried about the future of the family because he would not be able to do labour work as he used to do,”says his father.

“There are 9 members in the family.Earlier, Binder Singh used to work as a daily wager. But now he would not be able to work for months after open heart surgery and may not be able to work properly even then.Further, the family has been continuously been suffering since partition as they had to migrate to India and due to illiteracy, the family could not get its land back in replacement and resettlement. His younger  brother’s son is also physically challenged and has also defect in his heart.Kaku Singh is also now very old, above 70 and can not earn much,” said Parnam Singh,a neighbour from Deviwala village.

Kaku Singh implores for some financial help from the government and social workers or philanthropists.

“I beg for the life of my son.If ever we get some financial help, we shall be able to undergo the transport and medicines expenses, otherwise, we have been badly trapped into a very difficult situation,” said Kaku Singh.
