In compliance of the directions of Shri Bhagwant Singh Mann, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab, and Sh. Gaurav Yadav, IPS, Director General of Police, Punjab, Chandigarh, a campaign “War Against Drugs” has been initiated across the state of Punjab against those who consuming and smuggling drugs. Therefore, for reviewing and introducing the performance of “Faridkot Range Faridkot” in this campaign, a press conference was held today, April 11, 2025, by Shri Ashwani Kapur, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Faridkot Range, Faridkot, along with Shri Akhil Chaudhary, IPS, SSP, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Dr. Pragya Jain, IPS, SSP, Faridkot, and Shri Ajay Gandhi, IPS, SSP, Moga, at Ashoka Hall, Faridkot. During this campaign, various activities and action has been taken such as meetings conducted with the general public, jails checking, medical stores checking and continuous surprise CASO operations by identifying drug hotspots are being conducted by the SSPs and all gazetted officers posted under Faridkot Range. All police officers of Punjab Police including PHGs, constables and up to the rank of DGP, are participating in this campaign “War Against Drugs.” The results achieved during this campaign, are being praised from all quarters.

The Punjab government has launched the Safe Punjab Helpline No. 97791-00200 in August 2024 to break the supply chain of drugs and provide information about drug smugglers. Anyone can provide information about drug smugglers via WhatsApp on this number. The identity of the informant will be kept confidential. Under this Safe Punjab Helpline project, a total of 295 calls have been received in Faridkot Range. After verification, strict action has been taken by the Punjab Police against individuals involved in the drug trade.

To educate the general public about the harmful effects of drugs, under the “Project Sampark” campaign initiated by the Hon’ble DGP Punjab, a total of 1127 meetings have been conducted in Faridkot Range with general public, students of schools and colleges, individuals from various professions, and truck drivers also. The meetings conducted under “Project Sampark” are having a positive impact on the general public. People from all communities feel safe due to this initiative of the police. Inspired by this, a total of 184 resolutions have been passed by the panchayats to make drug free villages/wards and this series of drug-free villages is continuously increasing.

After Inspiring by the contact meetings and sports tournaments/events conducted by the Punjab Police in the campaign against drugs, many youths have voluntarily pledged to quit drugs. As a result, a total of 113 drug-affected individuals have been admitted in drug-deaddiction centers. In addition, the Punjab Police is making every possible effort to rescue individuals who are continuously consuming drugs from this quagmire. Furthermore, 02 illegally operating drug-rehabilitation centers have been sealed, and 59 detained individuals are being provided government-sponsored treatment.

The campaign “War Against Drugs” launched by the Punjab government successful, a total of 557 cases have been registered and 895 accused have been arrested in 2025 against individuals involved in the drug trade under Faridkot Range. Out of these, 12 smugglers (Big Fish) have been arrested, and a large quantity of drugs has been recovered from them. By conducting strict interrogation, a Backward & Forward Linkage has been established to break the drug supply line, and a total of 128 accused have been arrested.

In addition, as per the directions of the Punjab government, after verifying the movable/immovable property acquired by drug dealers/smugglers from drug proceeds, a total of 85 cases were sent to the Competent Authority, New Delhi, by the districts under Faridkot Range in 2024 and 2025. After receiving the confirmation order, property worth a total of ₹32,19,66,089 has been attached so far. Continuing this series, by coordinating with the concerned departments, a total of 07 properties of drug smugglers have been demolished under this range against their illegal constructions.

To maintain law and order in the state of Punjab, the Punjab Police has succeeded in arresting a total of 20 associates of gangsters belonging to various groups in the districts under this range. This series will continue in the future as well.

Shri Ashwani Kapur, DIG Faridkot Range, Faridkot, highlighted the role of every individual and the importance of this campaign in the fight against drugs by providing encouraging details. He emphasized that eradicating the drug problem from its roots is our collective responsibility. The “War Against Drugs” can only be won through joint efforts by the police and the public. Establishing a drug-free Punjab is no longer just a dream but is becoming a reality. With the participation of every member of society, we can establish a drug-free Punjab in the future
