Deputy commissioner Faridkot Punamdeep Kaur has urged the farmers not to harvest wet crops and bring the moisture laden produce to the grain markets of the district.
“The farmers should harvest the crop in the daytime and bring the paddy produce with only 17 percent of moisture content which is permissible. The wet produce leads to glut in the grain markets as it can not be purchased as per the specification of the government procurement agencies,” she said.
She said that 68 procurement centres have been made in the district.
“The combine operators must not harvest the crop before 10 AM and after 6 PM,” she said.
The early varieties of paddy would be mature for harvesting in less than a month, before October 10.
It is pertinent to mention that some of the farmers start harvesting immature crops which have more moisture and it creates many problems, including the loot of the farmers themselves.
