Punjab Government under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann has organized today a district-level program pertaining to Yudh Nashian Virudh. at Alaska Grand Ferozepur Road, Faridkot.
While addressing the gathering, Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the Government of India wants to grab Punjab’s share of water. He added that BBMB has allocated 3.318 MAF, 2.987 MAF and 5.512 MAF water share in the present year to Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab respectively on the pattern followed in the previous years. Haryana has already used its share of water and now they have forcibly taken away 8500 cusecs of water from Punjab’s share with the help of central agencies. He mentioned that an attempt is being made to plunge Punjab into a dark era again.
He further informed that every drop of water is precious for us and no one will be allowed to grab Punjab’s share of water. He said that a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has been called on May 5 in this regard. He also gave a message to unite against the eradication of drugs from Punjab. He said that the Punjab Government has formed a Village Security Committee under Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign, which includes the Sarpanch and other members, who will fulfill their responsibility for the complete eradication of drugs.
Cabinet Minister S. Tarunpreet Singh Sond said that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign will continue till the complete eradication of menace of drugs. He said Punjab would be made the leading state in development and the day is not far away when Punjab will become Rangla Punjab again.
He said that the Punjab Government will firmly oppose the injustice of the Centre Government for taking away Punjab’s share of water and we will not allow our water to go outside at any cost. He also administered an oath against drugs to the audience. He advised the representatives of the Rural Security Committees of Panchayats to watch every activity in the villages and cooperate with the Government for the treatment and rehabilitation of people addicted to drugs so that such people can be included in the mainstream of society by giving them a new life.
Cabinet Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar said that the Punjab government will take strict action against drug traffickers as per prescribed law and illegal properties of drug smugglers will be confiscated. He appealed to the people to be aware about ill effects of drugs in villages, wards, streets and neighborhoods and to provide information about drug smugglers to the police so that strict action can be taken against them. He said that village guardians should play a leading role in this decisive war against drugs.
Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur expressed happiness over the large participation of women in this event and said that the war against drugs cannot be successful without women. He said that women should come forward and participate in these committees formed in the villages to make Punjab prosperous again and save the youth of Punjab.
Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur also gave information about the awareness campaign launched in the district against the war on drugs, the actions being taken by the Rural Defence Committees regarding the ill effects of drugs, the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts and the Nashiyan Virudh Yatra to be held in the entire district from May 7 and he appealed to the people to join this campaign and make it a success.
SSP Dr. Pragya Jain shared information about the arrests made under this campaign so far in the district, recovery of drugs and seizure and demolition of properties of drug smugglers. She appealed for the cooperation of the people for the eradication of drugs and said that Faridkot Police has secured the first place in the recovery of drugs and arrest of drug smugglers in the entire Punjab.
